 presenting diecast collectors from Slovenia:

Damir Mejrić, 1/24 diecast model cars collector, diecast "customizer" and DamDesign model cars production !

Hi, my name is Damir Mejrić and I'm an addict when it's up to modifying model cars. There, I said it. Can I sit down now?

No, seriously - my name is Damir Mejrić and I'm an addict when it's up to modifying model cars. It started a few years after my birth when I started watching my father working on cars as an amateur mechanic. He didn't use his hands, he used his heart and soul to fix those darn failures of automotive industry. And he was one of the best in his busines at the time. I mean - nobody could make that Crvena Zastava 101 Skala 55 purr like a kitten like my pops did.

It was only a matter of days before I got hooked... And it happened fast - instantly. Every toy car I ever got went through the same phases: Open the box, dismantle the toy, put it back together, start playing with it. Combining different body-parts of diferent toy cars to create someting new was something normal that happened on a daily basis.

And then I was told I was growing up. Beside my love for BMX riding the only thing that remained was my love for cars and everything connected to automotive industry in any way. I started drawing and designing cars at my age of 10 or so and it took me atleast 2-4 hours every single day. I'd even carry all my drawing equipment with me no matter where we went to holidays.

There was a short pause in my car-design hobby in the years when I was chasing my university diploma. You know... A new town, parties, women, friends, a kazzillion of new BMX-riding spots - it all took me so much time I couldn't afford any more time to draw cars any more. It was a moment when I wished a day would have at least 36 hours. By now that wish grew from 36 to 52 and is constantly growing...

In about 2002 I was moving some stuff around to make some room for my drums (my new-old addiction) and I came across an old and beat-up Porsche Carrera in 1/24th scale, made by Bburago. I'll never forget the moment when I bought it back in the '90s. I looked it and it instantly brought a smile to my hairy face. I dug deeper and found the remaining two of my first-ever die-cast model cars - Bburago 1/24 Ferrari 308 GTB and a Bburago 1/24 Alfa Romeo 75. The Alfa was one of those "do-it-your-darn-self" kits. They were both bought back in the '90s and all three of the mentioned cars were used as toys for about a decade.

I took them to my room and started taking the Porsche appart.
Why? No idea.
Did I have any plans with it? No.
Was I going back to my childhood years? Hell, yeah!

That Porsche got some paint on the seats, a bit of grey on the exhaust, a red LED light inside and one red LED light behind the engine... Don't ask... Yeah, I know, like:"OMG LOL WTF ROFL...".

After that it all went balistic. The Alfa got a massiff sound system, was slammed to the floor, got a new paintjob, some detail-work, ... The Ferrari got a new paintjob, detailed interior, some lowering, ...

If I look at them now, they're awfull. Will I change them? Never! Why? They show me how far I've gotten in what I love doing (almost) the most. Why the "almost" thingy? Well, I am a young, well-fed, heterosexual male with a lot of love for women, parties, cars, my friends, photography, music and my drums.

Since then I've modifead a lot of models (cars, that is...) and at each one I try to do something new, so there were some pretty weird combos in my career, such as a Hummer on tank-tracks, a Fiat 131 with a Dodge Viper engine, an old beat-up 3-window '33 Ford, a lowrider Impreza, ...

Over the years I've developed a huge intrest in hot-rod and rat-rod cars. I guess I grew over the blingy riced-out shopping carts... Lately I've been developing my weathering techniques and, truth be told, shiny perfectly polished cars make me yawn and wish my hands were toxic...

'Nuff written, back to work.

Best regards,

Damir Mejrić
